What is RSS feeds and syndication stuff ?

Ourss

Few months ago , i thought, we finally found the RSS explanation. still… there are some people who didn’t understand anything of RSS stuff. In France, we have a lot of bloggers (first community in Europe) but we are only a bunch of guys understanding the RSS and we try to make it easy to understand . Here we will try one more time. For people who have read the Oprah Way, you will find some common explanation.

before we jump in, ask yourself these question.
First, do you like to read blog and website ?
yes…
How many blogs do you like and how many do you read per day ?
3 to 10 maybe.
Do you wish to read more ?
yes… but it takes too much time
All right, if I tell you, that each day, i know what’s going on more than 200 website/blogs.
How could you do something like that., are you kidding me , it should take him at least 2 or 3 hours.

Last time I check it pick me 15 to 20 min to read my bloglist. How ? One ugly word: RSS. RSS feeds allows you to read more blog and/websites than you could dream of.

Seriously the RSS allows people to follow a lot information without to visit/visiting each blog or website. That all , for now. It’s like e-mail without SPAM. With RSS unsubscribe process it’s just a click.

We all have busy lives with very little time. Web surfing is fun but can take hours going to visit every single website and blog you enjoy. the Oprah Way

And we we don’t have time (my boss used to remind me ), so let’s start from the beginning.
What is RSS ?

RSS stand for “Really Simple Syndication” (2.0) or “Rich Site Summary” (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0) even “RDF Site Summary” (RSS 0.9 and 1.0), you don’t understand… me neither. should we try again with Wikipedia

RSS formats are specified in XML (a generic specification for data formats). RSS delivers its information as an XML file called an “RSS feed”, “webfeed”, “RSS stream”, or “RSS channel”. Wikipedia

You still don’t get it.. don’t worry, you’re not the only one

“to geeks and techies that means something special, but to everyday folks like you and me, what comes to mind is, “Uh, I don’t get it?” the Oprah Way

RSS is like a magic lamp
Suppose you have 10 or more sites and blogs that you like to visit regularly. Going to visit each website and blog everyday could take you hours. With RSS, you can “subscribe” to a website or blog, and get all the new headlines from all of these sites and blogs in one place. That’s best way to see what’s going on in minutes instead of hours. What a time saver!

RSS feeds bring automatically updated information straight to you. Easier than email, you will like it.

So just try it !!
